A Nigerian footballer based in the United States of America, Frank Obi, who came home to attend the Synagogue Church of All Nations for prayer, has been attacked by men suspected to be cultists in the Igando area of Lagos.

Obi was attacked with a cutlass at 3, Ade Olowu Street off Isuti Road, Igando where he lodged with some of his relations.

He, according to PM Express, suffered deep injury on his right leg and had to undergo an operation to stitch the injury he sustained.

One of the suspects who attacked him, Ismalia Taofeek, has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court with felony and assault under the Criminal code.

Narrating his ordeal, Obi, who explained that he only returned to Nigeria recently and was in Igando area to attend Synagogue church before going back to his base, said where he was staying, Taofeek and some other suspects were harassing his aides and that he only went to Taofeek’s father to report him so he could caution him.

He said while he was about leaving the compound which is next to his residence, Taofeek jumped from a story building with a cutlass and attacked him, leaving him with a deep machete cut on his leg.

Obi was rushed to hospital where he is being treated, while the matter was reported to the police at Igando division who arrested Taofeek while his accomplices are now at large.

At the station, Taofeek confessed to the crime saying he was angry that Obi went and reported him to his father.

He said he bought the cutlass he used in attacking Obi for self protection against any external attack.

He however pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, and the presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 12 December 2016.
