New King of racing, Justin Gatlin, has revealed that former world champion, Usain Bolt, was gracious enough, after he defeated him in the final race of his career. The Jamaican sprinter reportedly told the two-time disgraced American that he deserved his world title on Saturday night.

Gatlin was booed by the London crowd each time he appeared through the rounds of the men’s 100m. He however shut the crowd up after he stunned them by beating their favourite in the final.

According to Gatlin: “It’s just so surreal right now. Usain has accomplished so much in our sport and inspired others like Coleman to come out and compete in the championships. Usain said ‘congratulations, you deserve it.’ And that’s from the man himself. He said ‘you don’t deserve these boos’. He knows how hard I work. Tonight was all about the W (the win) and I managed to sneak it.”

Bolt, who wasn’t the fastest qualifier and hasn’t been the fastest man in the world this year for the first time in nearly a decade, was seeking his 12th world title. He, however finished 3rd with a time of 9.95secs, losing to Justin Gatlin who took gold in 9.92secs, and Christian Coleman who clinched silver with 9.94secs.
