A 56-year-old man, identified as Thomas Kofi Owusu, has been arrested for killing his wife and also striking their 7-year-old son to near death during a heated argument. He was alleged to have struck his wife, identified as Faustina Owusu, aged 42 and his son, identified as Benedict Owusu with a pinch bar until they both passed out around 8pm, October 30, 2016.

The suspect, who works as a block factory operator, was arrested by the the Accra Regional Police Command in Danchira in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra region, where the crime was reported to have been committed.

Reports indicate that the couple who have been married for seven years, lived together in a chamber and hall apartment with a 13-year-old girl, who is a niece to the deceased.

It was gathered that on the day of the sad incident, while the couple were having an argument, their 7-year-old son was in the hall watching television with his cousin. The woman attempted to go out of the room during the heated argument but her husband dragged her into the room and threatened her with the pinch bar.

Their only child reportedly rushed into the bedroom to find out what was happening. The suspect immediately struck the woman in the head with the pinch bar and when the boy questioned him, he struck him too.

It was gathered that he wanted to also hit the 13-year-old girl with the pinch bar, but the girl pleaded that she was not part of the family and therefore must be spared.

She immediately rushed out of the room and raised an alarm.

After committing the crime, Owusu, fearing a mob attack for killing his wife, immediately went to the Amasaman Police Station to report himself.

ASP Effia Tenge, who confirmed the report, said the police received the complaint from the suspect around 8:30pm on that fateful day.

When the police proceeded to the house, both the mother and child were lying in a pool of blood in their bedroom.

The little boy was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The body of Faustina was also conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy while investigations continued.

The suspect, who is currently in police custody, wants to obtain approval from his lawyer in order to make further disclosure to the police.
